About

Doc Wayne is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation founded and organized in Massachusetts.  Doc Wayne, from the beginning, has focused particularly on youth who are burdened with complex trauma, combined with serious emotional disorders, substance abuse, and severely challenging behaviors. Often this behavior of unpredictable violence has contributed to these youth being unwelcome in home, school, and community venues. For these youth, an innovative and sport based experience is offered through the medium of a therapeutic curriculum (DtG or Do the Good) embedded in team sports that maximizes their potential to achieve individual goals while providing desired outcomes. The curriculum was designed by Doc Wayne in collaboration with Edgework Consulting, an internationally recognized creator of developmental services based in cognitive behavioral therapy through a sports venue.

"Nelson Mandela said of sport, ‘Sport has the power to change the world, the power to inspire, the power to unite a people in a way little else can.’ It is time we fully employ the unique power of sport to help our traumatized youth begin on their path to a more pro-social, successful life."

Our sports program is designed to:

  • Promote a youth’s personal development
  • Improve his/her capacity for pro-social relationships
  • Maximize his/her capacity for inclusion and participation in therapy and school
  • Become an experience that youth can apply to all other aspects of their lives on and off the field
  • Be a learning organization and continuously enhance the power of DtG to help youth control their emotions and behavior as they face the tasks of life

Curriculum

Doc Wayne has a specially designed curriculum that was built on the therapeutic model of cognitive behavioral therapy and The Attachment, Self-Regulation, and Competency Framework. Using teen-friendly slogan-aided language, and a behavioral and skills-development focus, Doc Wayne delivers the curriculum on fields and courts through a trained coaching staff.

The curriculum itself is called Do the Good or DtG for short.  Doing the Good is about getting to a place on the field and off the field where you feel effective, and you got there without doing any harm to anyone else. In other words, it’s about working hard to find your ‘positive path.’
